Service Technician (Small Engines and Battery Equipment)

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and versatile Service Technician to join our team, specializing in the maintenance and repair of both traditional small engines and emerging electric and battery-powered equipment used in landscaping applications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, a deep understanding of small engine systems, and the ability to adapt to the evolving landscape of battery-powered technology.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on traditional small engines, including but not limited to: two-stroke and four-stroke engines, carburetors, fuel systems, and ignition systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues with traditional small engine equipment, utilizing diagnostic tools and manuals as needed.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technological advancements in electric and battery-powered equipment.
• Service and repair electric and battery-powered landscaping equipment, including zero-turn mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, blowers, mowers, snowblowers, tractors, robotic mowers, and other related tools.
• Test and evaluate battery systems, chargers, and electrical components for functionality and performance.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks on battery-powered equipment, including battery testing, cell balancing, and software updates.
• Collaborate with manufacturers and suppliers to stay informed about product updates, recalls, and service bulletins.
• Maintain accurate records of service and repair activities, including parts used, labor hours, and customer interactions.
• Provide excellent customer service by addressing client inquiries, explaining repair procedures, and offering maintenance tips.
• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.

Qualifications:

• Technical or vocational training in small engine repair or a related field is preferred.
• Proven experience (2+ years) servicing and repairing equipment in small engines or related field with transferable skills.
• Familiarity with electric and battery-powered equipment, including knowledge of battery technology, electric motors, and electronic control systems.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools commonly used in small engine repair.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow technical manuals and diagrams accurately.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical individuals.
• Customer-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality service and maintaining positive client relationships.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record (if required for on-site service calls).
• Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay current with industry advancements.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment and parts (up to 50 pounds).
• Comfortable working in various weather conditions and outdoor environments.
• Stamina to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods during repair tasks.
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise assembly and disassembly of components.
